Scontrino orchestra

2022 will be the centenary of the death of Antonio Scontrino, the double bass player and composer to whom I have dedicated a few years of study. His career began at home, receiving a tip from his father every time he attended a rehearsal of the amateur orchestra he gathered at home for pleasure.

What better initiative, to celebrate the son, but also the father who even built the instrument for him and made him discover his way, to create an amateur orchestra in Catania, where I live? Assisted by the Areasud association that takes care of the communication of the initiative, hosted in the hall of a parish in Catania for the rehearsals that take place once a week, we started the activity in June, which will lead to the first public exhibition in October.

An amateur orchestra has the same objectives as a wind band, very popular in Sicily, but forming a symphonic orchestra, centered on strings and the symphonic repertoire. It is an experience that brings together people of different ages, backgrounds, professions, around the love for this type of music.
